New Skincare on Trial

Since my last New Skincare on Trial post was a hit, I am here to bring you another one! I think I am going to try and do these posts once a month as a roundup of a few of the new skincare products I have been testing out. What do you think about that? Although the results from skincare take a good few months to see, there are some products such as cleansers, masks, scrubs, etc that I expect immediate results from, which is why I can usually tell after the first use whether I love or hate some skincare products. And, when it comes to serums, creams, etc, results take time, but things such as texture, scent, absorption and feel are immediate, and you either love it or hate it.

New Skincare on Trial

*Lamelle Dermaheal Foaming Cleanser- Thankfully this is not really a foaming cleanser as the name suggests, but more of a rich gel cleanser. It isn’t drying and leaves my skin feeling balanced and comfortable. You only need a tiny amount, and the first few times I used way too much. It removes makeup and dirt well without stripping the skin, and is gentle enough to use on sensitive skin, it actually leaves my skin feeling silky soft. The cleanser is also soap free, so you won’t experience any dry or tight feeling.

REN Micro Polish Cleanser- Again, I have an issue with the name, as this is an exfoliater not a cleanser. It contains both chemical and physical exfoliaters for smoother brighter skin. This product should definitely not be used daily, your skin would not be happy, but should rather be used a few times a week when you skin is looking or feeling dull. I really like this, it gives a good scrub, and my skin certainly looks brighter and more refined after use. It does have a slightly rough feel to the scrub, so it may be too harsh for sensitive skin. For sensitive skin, a chemical exfoliater is a much better option, and I really like the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask.

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate- I expected more from this product known as “The Hollywood 2-minute facial” since it is described as an Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. This product also contains chemical and physical exfoliaters, although this one has a very fine grit, sort of like a powdery paste. After use my skin looks and feels smoother and brighter, but I expected a slight tingle during application. Just me?

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel- This product was also a bit of a let down as once again, I expected more! This is a two-phase at-home peel, with two wipes that you swipe over your face. I had a bit of tingling around my nose area, but nothing intense at all. I guess my skin is quite used to intense peels, so this was just a tickle. But for skins that are more sensitive, you may get better results.

*Theravine Pro Youth Balancing Mist- This mist is part of the Pro Youth Range, aimed at teens and early twenties with a focus on acne or oily skin types. I am thirty with pretty much normal skin, but I absolutely love this product! It is meant to be used as a toner after cleansing to remove traces of dirt and pollution. But, I have been using this as a face mist before makeup to hydrate and prep my skin, after makeup to finish off my makeup, as well as during the day to refresh and cool down my skin. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed which is needed as the weather warms up, with a dewy matte finish. The last thing I love about this is the scent, I don’t know what it reminds me of, a specific sweet from my childhood perhaps, but whatever it is, I love it!

*REN Flash Hydro-Boost Instant Plumping Emulsion- Another lovely scented product is this new innovative hydration booster from REN. What makes this innovative, well, it is charged with water. So, you apply it to your skin as you would a normal serum or cream, you then wet your fingertips and massage your face. The added water helps to super-charge the hydration, and I promise you you can really feel the difference! Immediately after application my skin looks plumper and my dehydration lines are less visible, thanks to the Hyaluronic Acid and Xylitol. To add to the sensorial experience the emulsion has a musk scent, like Beechies, do they even still make those?

Avene Cicalfate Restorative Skin Cream- This cream from Avene can be used after minor facial treatments to soothe and restore the skin barrier, which is exactly why I bought it. I have used it after a Dermapen treatment, a Laser treatment, as well as an intense but effective Retinol routine (I am looking at you Dermalogica 1%), and I am impressed! My skin was soothed, redness was reduced, there was no irritation, or burning. As you can see below, the texture is pretty thick, so I like to warm some in my hands and then pat it onto my skin. You could rub it, but if your skin is sensitive, rubbing is the last thing you want to do. It plays well under sunblock and makeup, and I have actually bought a second one as a backup!

Dermactin Skin Regenerating Lotion- This product is meant to assist with skin-tone and texture, but I just found the texture too thick. I used it a few times, and unfortunately I just didn’t like it.

*Nuxe Nuxuriance Ultra Anti-Ageing Roll-On Mask- Lastly I have this super luxurious roll-on mask. Everything about this screams luxury, from the packaging to the scent, and I am all for some luxurious pampering. I love the cooling roll-on applicator especially now that it is getting warmer, it really freshens and perks up my skin. The roll-on is a no mess no fuss way to apply the mask, while massaging your face, it also means you don’t waste this glorious product! I love to apply this before bed, leave it on overnight and wake up to plump radiant skin, although it can be used during the day for ten minutes, and then wiped off with a cotton pad.

I love these skincare posts, especially as we have a very similar skintype! I am so keen to try the REN Flash Hydro-boost. Seen so many good reviews. The Avene Restorative cream sounds like a winner too!

Thanks for reading Mariska! The Hydro-boost is fantastic! I love skincare that smells great, and that you can actually feel working!
The Avene cream is so so great! My Dermaceutic Regenceutic is finished, and I am glad this one does a good job too!

I also expected a bit more of a tingle during the Exfolikate, but I think perhaps if your skin is used to chemical exfoliators (Nip + Fab Glycolic pads, dr.dermal Texture Correction Pads, Dermalogica Thermofoliant etc) then your skin is already conditioned to accept them. I had no tingle at all.
HOWEVER, I put this on, put a timer for 1 minute on my phone (just in case, as it said Intensive and I was worried what would happen if I left it on the full 2 minutes). I then got a phone call from my hubby and we were arguing on the phone. For around 4-5 minutes. My skin was SO over-exfoliated that for about 4 days after I couldn’t use anything harsh and it was flaking and tight and sore.

Oh I forgot about Thermafoliant, thank you for reminding me! I used it this week, and they are quite similiar, arent they? Wow, maybe I should try and leave it on for 3 minutes, and see how it goes!
