One of the brands I eagerly await new launches from is Kiehl’s! They always have such innovative new product launches, with countless skincare benefits and an experience to match. I usually can’t wait to get my hands on them and it was no different with the latest product to hit our shores, a 99.6% naturally-derived cream to supply the every growing demand for more natural, but effective skincare products. So, let’s get started with my Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream Review.
This product launched in March, but I wanted to use it for a good few weeks before posting my review. I have now been using it continuously for around 2 months, and in short, my skin loves it!
Let me start with the product information and then move onto my thoughts.
For the first time in skincare, two of the world’s most powerful traditional medicine ingredients, New Zealand Manuka Honey and Korean Red Ginseng Root are combined in a 99.6% naturally-derived cream. Dr. Genesky, Kiehl’s Head Chemist has this to say about these ingredients: “These are true powerhouse ingredients with strong scientific profiles”. “New Zealand Manuka Honey is no ordinary honey. For over 30 years it has been known for its strong efficacy, and physicians today still value it as a potent skin treatment. Korean Red Ginseng Root has been used for 1000’s of years in traditional Asian medicine, and has been demonstrated to be the most powerful ginseng in the world in terms of biological actives.”
Manuka Honey is well known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, as well as its ability to treat skin wounds. But, it also has the highest polyphenol level and anti-oxidant activity, which help to protect the skin from oxidative damage such as pollution, which we all experience on a daily basis living in the city. I also just found out that it is also known to stimulate collagen producing fibroblasts and keratinocytes, helping repair damage and maintain the skin barrier hydration.
Korean Red Ginseng Root has been linked to stimulation and protection of the cellular energy pathways that begin to malfunction or slow down over time. This highly potent form of ginseng protects the cell’s mitochondria from oxidative stress and increases the production of energy-related molecules and pathways. Studies into the skincare benefits of Korean Red Ginseng have shown; a significant improvement of aged, dull skin to recover its youthful radiance, an increase in skin hydration, barrier function and collagen production, a decrease in extracellular matrix degradation, and an ability to prevent UV-induced roughness.
So, basically the ingredients have some amazing benefits, with the main goal of getting or keeping your skin looking healthy. “Healthy looking skin is characterised by radiance and vibrancy, smooth, supple texture and it can be defined by a capacity to resist and recover from damage. Over time, skin naturally becomes less able to resist and recover and youthful vitality is diminished.”
Do you have healthy looking skin? I certainly don’t, which is where the *Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream comes in!
Having just turned 30 in March, effective skincare products are even more important to me. The cream itself has a weird texture, it is a mousse/cream that melts onto your face like an oil and absorbs quickly leaving your face feeling as if you have just applied a lightweight gel. Application is a sensory experience, and I love taking my time massaging this into my skin, it feels so luxurious. Because it melts into an oil, you only need a tiny amount, it took me a while to get the amount right, but after two months, my tub still has 3/4 left. The only thing I can fault is the packaging, I really don’t like jar packaging for skincare.
My skin is combination and dehydrated, with a few dry patches, and this has worked wonders. My dehydration lines have reduced, my dry patches are gone, and my skin looks plumper and feels less sensitive. I do feel that very oil or very dry skin types might not get on with this cream, as it might be too rich for very oil skin and too lightweight/gel-like for very dry skin. Saying that I have both dry and oily patches and it works fine, but the extreme skin types may find it unsuitable.
When I first started using this cream I wasn’t a huge fan of the scent, which has a slight rooibos-like fragrance, but after using it for a good few weeks, it has grown on me. Because this applies like an oil, I was a bit worried about its effect on makeup application, but I am happy to say it works perfectly under makeup, thanks to the gel like finish.
If you are concerned about aging, radiance, hydration and pollution, then I would highly recommend this. If you are a mom, maybe add it to your Mother’s Day Wishlist!
