Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1% Review
Thursday, 16 Nov 2017
Retinol, the anti-ageing super power has recently become a familiar part of many peoples skincare routines, and thanks to dermalogica, introducing a clinical strength formula into your routine has now become even easier. Today I would like to share my thoughts on the dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1% that has been renewing my skin for the past few months.
You may remember I shared my thoughts on the original dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair, which is 0.5% and perfect for someone wanting to introduce a Retinol product into their routine. The latest addition to the *dermalogica Retinol arsenal is for those skin types that are already accustomed to Retinol, as it contains a whopping 1% microencapsulated pure Retinol. Aside from the Retinol active, this formula also contains a powerful Bioactive Peptide and antioxidant Vitamin C to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, uneven skin tone and discolouration. There are also hydrating and soothing ingredients such as Squalane and Licorice Extract. But, my favourite part of both this 1% and the previous 0.5% Retinol, and what sets dermalogica apart from the rest, is the Buffer Cream, which allows you to introduce the product to your skin at your own pace, which minimises the risk of flaking and irritation as the skin acclimates. The Buffer Cream is also excellent used on its own as a face cream when your skin is feeling rundown or sensitive, or after facial treatments.
As you can see, the 1% comes in an air-tight pump bottle which I love, as opposed to the tube of the 0.5%!
I must say I underestimated the strength of this! At first, I used it as directed, mixed with the Buffer Cream until my skin was accustomed. I then started using it alone every second day, and my skin was less clogged and more refined and I was super happy with the results. I then started using it every day, after using my Glycolic Acid cleanser, and that’s when it happened, the Retinol reaction, my skin felt rough and started flaking lightly, and I knew it was time to stop the cleanser, as it was just too much for my skin to follow Glycolic Acid with a Retinol of this strength. It is important to always listen to your skin. I personally love the Retinol reaction, I love revealing new healthy skin, there is nothing more satisfying than knowing the skincare you are using is doing the job it is supposed to. When you first start using a Retinol product it is normal to feel slight tingling, I like to think of it as your cells waking up and actually starting to work again! Just remember to always use sun protection (which you should be doing anyway), but it is even more important when using Retinol.
The new dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1% is great for the advanced Retinol user, and it really delivers! Since this product is Clinical Strength, it is available exclusively at professional skin care centres.
Do you use Retinol in your skincare routine?
