L.O.V Cosmetics in South Africa

Tuesday, 10 Jan 2017

L.O.V Cosmetics the bigger, sleeker, fancier, higher-end sister to essence and Catrice is now available in South Africa. I received *The Forbidden Dramatic Volume Mascara and *The Lip Affair Color and Care Lipstick to try out. But, all in the name of Beauty Blogging, I wanted to buy a few more products so that I can do a proper review for all of you. Also, the EVENelixir Serum Foundation looked so good, that I definitely wanted needed to try it out!

LOV Cosmetics First Impressions

So, off I went to Dischem and was welcomed to a well-stocked L.O.V stand. The range is quite big, there are over 20 eye products, 7 lip products, 14 face products and 8 nail products, all with a wide choice of colours. Unfortunately, similiar to essence and Catrice, the foundation range doesn’t cater beyond medium skin tones which is disappointing, but expected for a European Brand. Although I must say, essence and Catrice have starting extending their shade range recently, which is really great.

After a considerable amount of time browsing, as I am sure you can imagine, this is what I bought: EVENelixir Serum Foundation, The Undressed 12H Moisturizing Foundation, EVENelegance Foundation Brush and Heartful Healthy Glow Blush.

*The Forbidden Dramatic Volume Mascara in Extra Black has a weirdly shaped brush, like an hourglass that is meant to give full and defined lashes with just one stroke thanks to its plumping texture. The mascara itself is not wet or dry, but somewhere in between, and coats lashes well. It does a good job of adding volume to lashes.

LOV Cosmetics Review and Swatches

*The Lip Affair Color and Care Lipstick in Christina’s Red is a creamy pigmented lipstick that is a true red. Since it has a shiny cream finish it is not as long-lasting as liquid or matte lipsticks. The finish is slightly glossy, hydrating and smooth, and I quite like it. What I love most about this is the packaging, it has a magnetic click when it closes which makes it feel very high-end. There are both semi matte and subtle gloss finishes in this range.

Heartful Healthy Glow Blush in Seductive Flamingo is stunning, and reminds me a lot of NARS Orgasm. It has a slight shimmer but doesn’t emphasise pores. This definitely gives a healthy glow! As with the lipsticks, the blush comes in both shimmery and matte finishes.

The Undressed 12H Moisturizing Foundation in Honey-moon is a light moisturising foundation that provides light to medium coverage without looking heavy. It has a dewy natural finish that evens out the complexion while hydrating, making it perfect for dry skin types. For imperfections you will need to use a concealer, as this won’t cover up much, but will rather to enhance your natural beauty.

The EVENelixir Serum Foundation in Honey-moon is amazing! Although this is the same shade as the 12H Moisture it is darker and quite warmer toned as you can see below. This foundation has medium coverage, and helps to protect the skin with spf20. The foundation is incredibly thin and comes in a dropper bottle, it is amazing that it still offers medium coverage. The finish is slightly more matte than the 12H Moisture Foundation, but still has a radiant luminous look to it. The serum part of this foundation is meant to improve hydration, skin tone, elasticity as well as reduce fine lines.

LOV Serum Foundation Review

Last I have the EVENelegance Foundation Brush. It is a dense and soft flat topped foundation brush that applies foundation seamlessly without any streaking. It works best with more liquid foundations, and is perfectly suited for the Serum Foundation. It doesn’t absorb much product, which is great, I hate brushes that absorb my product. I use this to gently stipple foundation into my skin. I just wish the brush head was a bit bigger to cover a bigger area at a time.

Overall I am really happy with L.O.V Cosmetics, my favourite products are the EVENelixir Serum Foundation and the Heartful Healthy Glow Blush.

L.O.V Cosmetics is available at Selected Dischem Stores and online on Takealot.com. You can also check out L.O.V Cosmetics South Africa on Facebook for more details.

I’m so glad that you reviewed the serum foundation and the foundation brush, I’m keen on both! what shade are you in MAC?

    1. admin says:

I really love the serum foundation, I am the second darkest foundation in it and I am Mac nc35. The foundation brush is nice but a little too small for me.

Thanks so much for your reply. I’m looking for a new foundation brush. I’ve been using Sigma’s F80 but it recently started shedding quite badly. So I’m leaning towards the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage face brush. Have you perhaps used it yet and have any thoughts on it and/or have any other recommendations?

To be honest, the Kandy Kane face brush is the best I have tried. I use it more than Sigma even. For a duo fiber face brush the Body shop is great. And the real techniques expert face brush is pretty nice too
